Job Description
Role: Postdoctoral researcher in nonlinear optical fibre phenomena
Description: Postdoc will use nonlinear optical fibre phenomena in specialty (e.g. microstructured) optical fibre technology to develop and optimise new optical fibres for distributed sensors working in nuclear environment.
All tasks will be realised in close cooperation with PCFS's team, what will cover broad range of activities: research, innovation development, project planning and realization, communication and dissemination, management, legal and administrative matter.
The target of the proposed research is to develop new optical fibre for distributed sensors working in nuclear environment. In a frame of the position, Postdoc will actively take part in R&D and training programme planned in the project.

Main Duties
• Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with the PCFS’s and project guidelines on research and maintain all required records of such research appropriately.
• Undertake investigation of selected nonlinear phenomena in optical fibres to identify appropriate sensing principles.
• Undertake investigation of selected scattering methods to identify appropriate sensing principles.
• Cooperate with Supervisor.
• Liaise with the Financial and Administration Department, Technology Department, R&D Department and other researchers on scientific, technical and financial aspects of the project.
• Contribute to the research activities of PCFS.
• Prepare written updates of investigation progress and contribute to reports to FNP, as appropriate.
• Assist with the supervision of lower rank researchers and engineers as appropriate.
• Participate in project meetings as required.
• Participate in a relevant training programme.
• Present research findings to scientific or industrial audiences.
• Any other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the post.
All work need to be realized in accordance to PCFS's management quality system in line with the ISO 9001 standard for: providing research and development in the field of photonics in order to implement practical solutions in innovative technologies.
All PCFS staff have a responsibility to comply with the relevant Health and Safety Policy.

How to Apply The recruitment procedure will consist of 2 stages:
1. Evaluation of demanded documents sent by candidates
• Short presentation of the candidate vision of his/her research (in English);
• Two pages prepared by candidate in English as example of scientific paper on imaginary topic (nothing published);
• Recommendations by well recognized scientists (at least one; in English);
• Contact to two people who may recommend the candidate;
• CV (in English) (including list of publications - at least 3 in peer reviewed journal: list of realized as participant national or international projects (at least 3), short description of PhD thesis (in optical fibre subject);
• Cover letter (in English);
2. Qualified after the first stage candidates are invited for an interview with experts, which will include:
• An oral presentation in English;
• Writing a short text (100 words) in English;
• Interview in English:
• Professional profile of the candidate;
• Evaluation of English speaking skills;
• Evaluation of experience and scientific background of the candidate;
• Evaluation of attitude and motivation of the candidate.
Additional requirements: not more than five years after PhD thesis defence.
The most important conditions for accepting the candidate as a member of the group are the following: ability to learn, creativity, experience in the field (adequate to the position), adequate profile (nonlinear phenomena in optical fibres), fluent English in speaking and writing and team work skills, attitude, responsibility and motivation of the candidate.
