The host company is a Joint Venture between the University of Bristol and Bristol City Council and focuses on how cities are changing. Developments in software, hardware and telecom networks are enabling more interaction between people and places and more machine-to-machine communication, creating an internet of things. Opening-up and making sense of this will give citizens more ability to interact, work and play with their city. Smart city technologies will be able to respond in real-time to everyday events including congestion, waste management, entertainment events, e-democracy, energy supply and more.

Zakres obowiązków

The team is looking for someone who combines three attributes: a journalist who uses data to create compelling stories, someone with design skills including Photoshop, a ‘self-starter’ with strong written and spoken English. The right person will make a major contribution towards this ambitious new company. Uncover data-driven stories from 200 open data sets.  Visualise the data and produce a compelling narrative.  Work with the technical team at the UK’s first 3D 4K Data Dome to create exciting visual content using open data and city-wide sensor data in the Dome. Collaborate with many stakeholders of the project.  To explore and summarize data using relational database software.  To use statistical tools to identify significant data trends.  To develop a thorough understanding of the project’s aims and the part this job plays in meeting them.  To create exciting concepts and high quality, creative work for different media.  To lead and manage design projects, ensuring that all work is completed on time and within budget.

Wymagania

A good understanding of statistics and statistical analysis.  Professional or vocational qualification in graphic design.  A strong grasp of how to clean, parse and query data as well as database management.  Demonstrable experience of visualising data and using visualisation tools such as Tableau, Refine and Fusion Tables.  Demonstrable experience of working to tight deadlines.  A good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.  Analytical thinking.  Creative thinking  Well organised.
